My story with butterflies

My story with butterflies began back in the days when I was a child. Summer was the best time of the year and one of my favorite ways to spend time was watching butterflies.

I ran around a field of flowers with my butterfly-net trying to catch all those beautiful colors. Once I caught one and put it in a chloroform jar the way my friend had taught me. Soon I realized that this just didn’t feel right. Once this amazing flying creature became immobile dead object, the magic was gone. I stopped catching butterflies, but I never stopped observing them flying on our home yard during my childhood summers.

Rushing on the fields without a single worry in my mind left such a strong emotional memory on me. I am sure many of you share similar experiences as mine. I found butterflies to be the perfect instrument to latch me back into my childhood’s memory lane. It is said that butterflies symbolize transformation, time, lightness and celebration. They resemble life and its beauty, and we love them for that.

As a designer I want to offer something new to a real need. The bottom reason why Belightful Design got started was that I want to bring that careless, happy feeling back. With the butterfly feeder we have a new way to pursue living in the moment by supporting and photographing butterflies.

In fact I am by no means a butterfly expert, I just enjoy watching them. The idea of butterfly feeder is to bring back the butterfly-summers and help butterflies. It is an amazing thrill to design the perfect way of reintroducing us to our inner-child through beautiful shapes and color. The timing to design an object like this couldn’t be better: butterfly populations have declined during the last decades (check our previous blog here). Helping butterflies is a challenge we can all take part into.

We are privileged if we can live in the moment, by focusing on enjoying and helping the butterflies for example. Living in the moment just isn’t that easy once you grow up. But I’ve personally noticed that this passion of mine takes me there.

We here at Belightful Design are only at the very beginning of our adventure. I am looking forward to this colorful journey into the world of butterflies and see where it will take us.
