Tips for the upcoming butterfly season

Tips for the upcoming butterfly season

Here are some tips and reminders to prepare yourself for the upcoming butterfly season and to make the most out of it!

WHEN TO USE?
If you start feeding already in the spring: you help adult butterflies, which live over winter (the Commas and the Mourning Cloaks especially) and won’t be able to find nutrition from the nature yet in early springtime. Peak season for feeding is at the end of summer and in the beginning of fall, when most of the butterfly species are on the move. Depending on the country, there is time between spring and best butterfly season when only larvae are growing. For example, in northern Europe, June is often so quiet that you can keep your Oasis empty.

IMPROVING THE NECTAR
You can enhance the attraction of the nectar in a following way: Mix one bag of nectar powder to 100 ml/ 3,5 fl oz of water and add 50 ml/ 1,5 fl oz for example red wine or balsamic vinegar.

BUTTERFLY PLANTS - GO WILD!
If you have a garden, make sure to include some butterfly friendly plants and/or wildflowers in it. Ask for more tips from your local garden center! Also leaving some parts of the garden in a natural state and allowing grass and wildflowers to grow freely is a good way of supporting all butterflies and other pollinators.

BE PATIENT
Beautiful butterflies are worth waiting for. There might be big regional differences in butterfly population appearances through different seasons. Don't give up, and remember you can always ask for more tips from us. We are happy to help!
